Common Causes of Skin Damage

Virtually everything affects the skin. Luckily, there are things around us that benefit the skin as well. Consider the harmful factors that age your skin and what you can do about them to maintain healthy and beautiful skin.

Sun
The sun permeates the skin’s layers. This works wonderfully to heat you up through radiant heating, but it causes rapid aging of multiple skin layers. The sun is what causes the most damage amongst many people. The sun causes a decrease in collagen production, and it also affects the elasticity the skin has. These two factors cause wrinkles to form over time. The sun also changes a difference to occur in melanocytes, which can lead to white patches. In addition, the sun can cause hyperpigmentation as well. While some people put on sunscreen or sunblock to protect their skin, it is advisable to avoid the sun as much as possible. Wear hats and use other items that can effectively block out the sun.

Pollutants
Every little thing around the skin affects it. The skin, as the largest organ of the body, works to clean out the body and protect it. This is why skin conditions show up when something is wrong inside the body. Pollutants in the air, clothing detergents, cleaning agents, soap, smoke and other things can have harmful chemicals in them that can cause skin to be itchy, have a rash, break out into pimples or hives and experience other skin issues. It’s wise to avoid harsh chemicals, but it’s also important to drink an adequate amount of water to flush toxins out from the body. Eat fruit and vegetables that can help combat free radicals that can cause cancer.

Inadequate Hydration

Very few people drink enough water. Most people are recommended to drink 64 ounces of water per day, but this is not enough for some. The recommended amount to drink is half a person’s body weight in terms of ounces. So, if a person weighs 150 pounds, they should have 75 ounces of water a day. Water helps to plump up the skin and helps with cell production. It also helps to produce collagen. Skin that is not hydrated wrinkles more quickly and is more susceptible to acne, infections and other conditions.Your skin will reflect everything going on in your body and outside of your body, which means you have to take adequate measures to clean toxins from your body and protect yourself from outside harmful sources. Get plenty of rest, exercise, and pamper your skin.
